Joe Handrick is a Minocqua native, born there in 1965. He has spent much of his life in public service including service as Minocqua's Town Chairman and six years representing the northwoods as a legislator in the State Assembly.
Joe frequently uses Facebook and other social media platforms to share memories, talk and reminisce about the history of our town, and stir conversations of yesteryear. At the urging of friends, he created this website as a place to share the history and his memories of his home town -- with a twist.
"50 Years Ago -- Through Our Eyes" is a place where Joe posts thoughts and memories of a significant event that happened 50 years ago, through the eyes of people living in Minocqua Wisconsin. The first entry is about the moon landing in July of 1969 -- his earliest real memory.
In each blog, Joe shares what was going on in Minocqua at that time -- what was playing at the movie theater, who was in the local news, etc. The goal is to bring history alive and give us the chance to reminisce about where we were, what we were doing, and who we were with as world, national, and local events unfolded, 50 years ago.
